Want to skip the red boxes and video store lines to see the latest blockbuster DVD releases? Head for your Clark County Library branches every Tuesday.

The Clark County Public Library’s new Express DVD Service, which launched Tuesday, Sept. 1, gives library patrons access to the biggest new home video titles the same day they are released.

“We wanted to do this to reward our patrons,” said Allison Peck, Library public relations manager. “We’re trying to lessen the wait time for our users to watch new movie releases.”

New videos will be released each Tuesday at the five Clark County Library branches.

The titles will be hits that made $15 million or more on their opening weekend in cinemas. This week’s big release is the sci-fi action film “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

Peck said the Express DVD Service will differ from the libraries’ regular DVD check-out process.

First, the titles will be available on a first-come, first-served basis each Tuesday when the library branches open.

There will be no reserves or holds for Express DVD titles.

The titles won't appear in the library's catalog, but patrons can stop by to see what is available or look for updates on the library's website or Facebook page.

Patrons can check out three new releases at a time, and the loan period is three days and a DVD cannot be renewed. Overdue fines on Express DVD titles will be $1 a day.

The main library will have five copies of each Express release, the Park and Village branches will have three each, and Enon and Houston branches two each.

Express DVD will not be available through the bookmobiles.

All titles will later be integrated with the regular titles. For now, the titles will be for the DVD format only, no Blu-ray.

“We’re hoping to draw more people in to our buildings to see what’s available in this collection and by doing this our hope is that they’ll check out some other materials while they are here,” Peck said. “There’s always something different for people to see.”

Future titles will include some of the summer’s biggest films such as “Avengers – Age of Ultron,” “Jurassic World,” “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” “Minions” and “Pitch Perfect 2.”

Peck said another upcoming program will offer new video game releases for various platforms. This will begin sometime in the fall.
