Background/Overview: Joseph R. Catanzaro was a visitor at the restaurant for over 30 years. He's now an elected Mad River Township Trustee. For many decades, he's been the owner of Catanzaro's Pizza and Subs on Dayton Avenue. The Catanzaro family has continually owned and operated different venues of business in Springfield since 1889.

From 1975, William Paul (Dave) and Patricia (Pat) Stacy owned The Carriage Inn until they retired this year. Catanzaro purchased the establishment on Oct. 16, 2014. He said the transition has gone smoothly due to the perseverance of executive chef Benny Williams, head waitress Martha Frock, new assistant Nicolas Catanzaro and the approximately 30 dedicated staff members who have also stayed on.

The menu is known for its freshly made traditional American food, and since the new owner is Italian it now includes homemade specialty dinners with Italian flavors. “It’s a family place where children are welcome and conversation is clean,” said Catanzaro, who noted that a grand opening celebration is coming soon.
