• The University of Dayton has renewed the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company’s status as community artist in residence for a second year.
Besides performing and offering classes on campus, DCDC is exploring how dance can help tap creativity in science, technology, math, engineering and other non-arts fields.
Last year, one of the company’s projects at UD’s ArtStreet was an original dance work with business and accounting students. Another highlight was a mass in Immaculate Conception Chapel that included music, dance and liturgy from the black tradition.
• Dayton-based Free Shakespeare, directed by Chris Shea, will present the comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at four outdoor locations starting Friday, July 22. All shows are at 7 p.m. Here’s the schedule:
July 22-24 — Antioch Amphitheater, Corry Street, Yellow Springs; July 29-31 — Wegerzyn Gardens Metropark, 1301 E. Siebenthaler Ave., Dayton; Aug. 5-7 — Newcom Founders Park, Green, Brown and Hess streets in the Oregon District, Dayton; and ArtStreet, two blocks east of Brown Street on Kiefaber Street, Dayton. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted after the show to pay the actors.
