Hara Arena opens its doors for memorabilia onlookers

Hara Arena opened its doors Sunday to allow people interested in bidding on items being sold in an online auction to look at the memorabilia.

An online auction for items from Hara Arena & Exhibition Center started Thanksgiving Day and runs through Wednesday.

The family-owned arena closed its doors forever in August, after a 60-year run of sports, concerts, entertainment and special shows in the Miami Valley. It hosted its last event on late August, taking with it a $36 million annual economic impact.

Everything But the House, an online global marketplace for estate sales, is hosting the online auction showcasing the eclectic assortment of Hara items and memorabilia. All items start at a $1 bid.

Connie Fischer of Everything But the House said Sunday the online auction has some interesting items for sale.

“We have ceilings tiles from the pub that was located here where bands, crew members or casts would draw or sign their names. It’s really neat,” said Fischer, who grew up close to Hara Arena in the Shiloh Gardens neighborhood.

The auction includes a limited number of Hara Arena and Cincinnati’s Crosley Field seats, Hara signage, photos, posters, sports and event memorabilia, sports equipment, chandeliers, catering items, tables and chairs.

An estate sale for Ralph and Edna Wampler also will run during the same time on the website. The Wampler family maintained the business for all 60 years.

“I was absolutely honored when they asked us to sell these items. I used to ride my bike down here when they were construction the arena. I’m glad people who remember this place can buy something from the past,” Fischer said.
