Roads in Clark, Champaign counties closed due to flooding

After heavy rainfall on Thursday night, a handful of Clark and Champaign county roadways are feeling aftermath.

As of 9:30 a.m. Friday morning, Springfield had received 2.81 inches of rainfall.

Union Rd. between Spangler Road and Lower Valley Pike will be closed on Friday due to water, according to the Clark County Engineer’s Office. Spangler Road between State Rt. 369 and State Rt. 4 will also be closed due to high water.

Mad River and Baker Road is also experiencing problems due to water, but as of Friday morning neither road is closed.

As of 7 a.m. Urbana had received 2.93 inches of rainfall.

In Champaign County, several roads have high water on them, according to the Champaign County Engineer’s Office.

Clark Road on Knights Creek just north of Route 296 and Bowling Road just north of Chrisitansburg are both closed due to high water levels.

Both bridges will remain closed of the weekend, as they will require additional inspection after high water levels.

While the office is receiving lots of calls about high water levels and debris on roadways, Steve McCall with the Champaign County Engineer’s Office, said that roads will be most likely be cleared by the end of the day today.
