Former Speaker John Boehner says 'There is no Republican Party ... There's a Trump party'

Former House Speaker John Boehner told a group at a political event in Michigan that the Republican Party is over and is now the party of President Donald Trump.

"There is no Republican Party. There’s a Trump party,” he said. “The Republican Party is kind of taking a nap somewhere.”

Boehner was speaking at the Mackinac Policy Conference.

Boehner also said that he, and Trump, didn't think Trump would win the 2016 election.

"I think Donald Trump promised Melania that he would not win. She didn’t have to worry about ever living in the White House. It’s probably why she doesn't look real happy every day. But, well, maybe one reason," Boehner said.
