If the Reds (31-54) find a winning recipe somewhere down the line — be it in 2017, 2018 or beyond — it’s likely the 27-year-old left fielder they acquired from the San Francisco Giants last July in the Mike Leake trade will be a key ingredient. On Tuesday, Duvall was named to the National League All-Star team as a reserve. He will be the Reds’ only representative in the game at 8 p.m. July 12 at Petco Park in San Diego.

“It’s a tremendous honor for sure just to be considered for the All-Star team,” said Duvall after a 9-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. “Then when I found out, it was pretty exciting.”

Duvall, a first-time All-Star in his first full season with the Reds, is tied for second in the National League with 22 home runs. He’s tied for fifth with 59 RBIs. He’s hitting .252 in 79 games with 20 doubles.

“I just want to represent the club well and go out there and play hard and have fun with it,” Duvall said. “Just being around a bunch of different guys, seeing how everybody goes about their business, it’s a chance to show everybody what I’m capable of. The main thing is I want to slow it down and enjoy the process and just enjoy it because you never know if you’re going to make it back or not.”

Duvall said he would be interested in participating in the Home Run Derby and has been asked if he would do it. He hasn’t been told yet if he has been selected.

“I’ve done a couple in the past and had fun with it,” Duvall said. “That would be a big honor as well.”

Right fielder Jay Bruce was not selected. He hit his 18th home run Tuesday. He ranks third in the National League with 62 RBIs. He’s tied for the league lead with six triples. He’s hitting .268 with 19 doubles.

The Red Sox lead the American League with four starters. The starters are: Red Sox outfielders Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley Jr.; Angels outfielder Mike Trout; Orioles third baseman Manny Machado; Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts; Astros second baseman Jose Altuve; Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer; Royals catcher Salvador Perez; and Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz.

The Cubs lead the National League with five starters. The starters are: Giants catcher Buster Posey; Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo; Cubs second baseman Ben Zobrist; Cubs shortstop Addison Russell; Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant; Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper; Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes; and Cubs outfielder Dexter Fowler.
