Wittenberg in three-way tie for second with one game remaining

The Wittenberg Tigers built a 20-0 first-quarter lead en route to a 43-27 victory Saturday at Kenyon.

Troy Clay and Bobby Froehlich each rushed for two touchdowns. Clay gained 62 yards on 10 carries. Jaheem Washington led the ground game with 74 yards on 12 carries. Froehlich completed 10 of 15 passes for 127 yards.

Wittenberg’s Michael Fiessinger returned a missed field goal 92 yards for a touchdown to give Wittenberg a 27-7 lead in the second quarter.

The Tigers (6-3, 6-2) enter the final week of the regular season in a three-way tie for second place in the North Coast Athletic Conference with Denison (7-2, 6-2) and Ohio Wesleyan (7-2, 6-2).

Denison lost 19-10 to Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday. Wittenberg hosts Ohio Wesleyan in its final game at 1 p.m. Nov. 16.

Wabash (7-2, 7-1) clinched a share of the title by beating Hiram 24-0 on Saturday and can win the championship outright by beating DePauw (5-4, 5-3) next Saturday.
