Wayne standout receives Ohio State football scholarship offer

Add Ohio State to the list of potential college destinations for Wayne High School football standout Aamil Wagner.

The junior offensive tackle announced Monday night he has received a scholarship offer from Ohio State.

A four-star prospect, Wagner already had numerous offers, including from Kentucky, Notre Dame, Stanford, Auburn, Michigan and Oregon.

Earlier this month, he added an offer from Louisville and received an invitation to the 2022 All-American Bowl, a prestigious postseason game that annually features some of the nation’s best high school seniors.

Wagner is the No. 13 offensive tackle prospect in the country and No. 134 player overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Wagner is the No. 5 prospect in the state and locally trails C.J. Hicks of Alter and Jyaire Brown of Lakota West in the composite rankings. Hicks and Brown are both Ohio State commits along with Marysville linebacker Gabe Powers, who is the No. 1 prospect in the state.

Ohio State has a rich recent history recruiting Wayne, having signed seven Warriors since 2000.

That began with Will Allen and John Hollins that year and continued with Marcus Freeman, Donnie Evege, Braxton Miller, Robert Landers and L’Christian “Blue” Smith.

From 2000 through 2019 at least one Warrior was on the Ohio State roster every season, something no other high school could claim.

The 6-foot-7, 260-pound Wagner also plays basketball for the Warriors, who recently completed a 17-5 campaign and tied Centerville for the GWOC championship.

He is not the only football/basketball standout from Wayne’s Class of 2022 to get major recruiting interest from major college football programs.

Tight end Elijah Brown has already committed to Alabama.
