Shawnee High School senior Robie Glass announced his verbal commitment to the Kent State football program on Monday.

Glass was named Southwest District Offensive Player of the Year in Division V. He threw for 992 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for 1,281 yards and 14 touchdowns, helping lead the Braves to a 9-3 season that included a first-round playoff victory against Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy.

Glass also has won two state championships in the high jump in his career.

Prior to his senior season, Glass said he had one Division I scholarship offer from Akron. Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Toledo and Kent State were also expressing interest at that time. Kent State offered Glass a scholarship in September. Shawnee coach Rick Meeks said Glass was being recruited as a wide receiver or defensive back, but could play linebacker at the next level.

Kent State will take a 6-6 record into the Frisco Bowl against Utah State on Dec. 20.
