HS Roundup 10/2: Wells paces Springfield in boys golf sectional

Boys Golf

Division I sectional at Reid Park: Lucas Wells led the field with a 72 to help Springfield take home the sectional title. The Tippecanoe, Bellbrook and Troy teams also qualified for the district tournament. Runner-up Riley Wilcoxon of Bellefontaine, Jack Murphy of Wilmington, Ben Spiekermann of Beavercreek and Trey Wentz of Sidney advanced individually.

Division I sectional at The Vineyard: Kyle Schmidt shot a 71, finishing as a co-medalist and leading Lakota East to a win in the tournament. Jacob Brownley of Lakota West had a 77 to qualify individually for district play.

Boys Soccer

Carroll 3, Roger Bacon 1: Armando Campos-Ortiz, Sean Dosedel and Conner Osterholt each netted a goal to help unbeaten Carroll win in rally fashion.

Dixie 3, Preble Shawnee 0: Trevor Hall, Matt Atkins and Alex Perminov each drove in a goal for Dixie, with Perminov notching the first of his career.

Fort Jennings 4, Temple Christian 1: Dakota Clay dropped in the lone goal for Temple Christian.

Greeneview 1, West Liberty-Salem 1: Tyler Hurley had Greeneview’s goal and Ethan Cole scored for WLS.

Oakwood 4, Valley View 3: Will Midtbo turned in two goals, Ryan Mueller three assists and Michael O’Hara and Ben Goeller a goal apiece to pace Oakwood.

Girls Soccer

Botkins 1, Newton 0: Aleah Johnson netted the lone goal for Botkins off a cross from Carmen Heuker. Keeper Grace Homan recorded the shutout.

Coldwater 6, Crestview 2: Erin Schritz had a hattrick and Haley Scheinder turned in two goals to carry Coldwater.

West Liberty-Salem 4, Greeneview 1: Gabby Hollar and Rachel Davis each tallied two assists and one goal to pace WLS.

Girls Tennis

Alter 5, Badin 0: Alter wrapped up the GCLC title outright with the win.

Middletown 5, West Carrollton 0: Hannah Wilson and Katie Pearson each won their singles matches by scores of 6-0 6-0 along with both doubles teams for Middletown.

Girls Volleyball

Ben Logan 3, Urbana 0: Taylor Adams tallied 12 assists, Jennah Adams nine digs and Maddy Johnson four kills in the loss for Urbana.

Butler 3, Greenville 0: Shelby Herman had 13 digs, Koryann Elliott nine kills and Brooke Stachler five aces in a losing effort for Greenville.

Catholic Central 3, Cedarville 2: Abby Sheridan scored 19 kills with three aces and four digs but Cedarville fell prey to a Catholic Central rally. Gabby Tobias added 17 digs and Elly Coe 40 assists.

Eaton 3, Brookville 1: Courtney Giffen turned in 13 kills, Maley Tinstman 41 assists and Kayleigh Michael 13 digs with seven aces for Eaton.

Mechanicsburg 3, Triad 0: Emma Dunham had 10 kills with six blocks, Elly Schipfer 12 kills with three blocks and Mallory Blakeman 17 digs to lead ‘Burg.

Miami East 3, National Trail 0: Brooke Johnson recorded 11 assists and Angel and Tristan Bowers each had 10 digs in a losing effort for Trail.

Tippecanoe 3, Piqua 0: Isabella Crow passed the 2,000 career assist mark, finishing with 34 to help Tippecanoe improve to 17-2. Rachel Wildermuth added 14 kills and Abby Hughes 14 digs.

Cross Country

Clark County Championships: Springfield Shawnee placed four runners in the top ten to win the boys race. Keith Kaiser led the way, finishing in second place, less than two seconds behind the winner Calvin Wise of Greenon. On the girls side Tecumseh edged Shawnee and Catholic Central, led by Kylee Mastin’s fifth-place finish. Audrey DeSantis of Shawnee was first and Kassidy Carpenter of Northwestern second.
