HS Roundup 9/30: Mason girls shine at golf sectionals

Sectional Tournament

Division I - Walden Ponds

Mason shined at the Walden Ponds sectional. Catherine Zhang won, shooting a 69, while teammates Ally Madden and Maddie Heister finished tied for second respectively, shooting 74s. Kings faired well: Leah Swayne shot a 74 and ended up fourth, Bekah Baumlein shot a 76 and tied Mason’s Demi Xie for fifth. Katie Gabert of Kings tied Mason’s Jenna Harter for seventh with 77s. Lakota East’s Grace Honigford and Samantha Bernardo shot 78s, tied for ninth.

Division I - Hamilton Elks

Top local scorers at Monday’s sectional was Lakota West’s Grace Chard, who tied for tenth with an 83; her teammate, Alyssa Trevis, shot an 85 and tied for thirteenth. Myers Ellie, also a Firebird, shot an 89, good for 19th.

Northmont 210, Troy 232: Northmont was led by Sam DeSpain’s 47, Jamie Womack’s 53, Carly Sherwood’s 55 and Jaedin Bowers’ 55.

Division I - Yankee Trace

Springboro’s Jordan Gilkison won the sectional Monday night at Yankee Trace, shooting a 65. His teammate Luke Lawrence shot a 74 and finished third and Cade Steele and Sam Graci both shot 82 and tied for ninth. Centerville’s Stewart Backus shot a 71 and finished second, while Will Owen shot a 74 to tie for third; Eric Cheruibini shot a 77, good for fifth; Jai Mosali, also an Elk, shot an 82 and tied for ninth. Lebanon’s Bryce Lambert and Joey Dennis both shot 78s and finished sixth. Northmont’s Brendan Siehl shot a 79, good for eighth, and his teammate Brayden Hobert shot an 82, tied for ninth.

Boys Soccer

Bethel 7, West Carrollton 0: Bethel ran out to an easy win, led by Aiden Flomerfelt’s 3 goals and 1 assist, Jaiden Hogge’s 2 goals, Nick Schmidt’s goal, Cannon Dakin’s goal and three assists, Jace Houck’s 2 assists and Casey Keesee’s assist. Bethel is now 11-2.

Girls Soccer

Milton Union 2, Vandalia-Butler 1: Bulldogs are now 8-4-2 after the win; Aviators are 8-3-2.

Stivers 4, Belmont 0: Madyson Overman recorded her fourth shutout on the year for 6-2 Stivers.

Girls Volleyball

Eaton 3, Tri County North 0: Shaylen Perry had 6 kills. Bailey Jerdon had 13 assists. Eaton is now 16-1 overall.
