H.S. Results for 5/2: Tipp ends Butler’s 34-game GWOC win streak

Tippecanoe bunched four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and stunned visiting Vandalia-Butler 6-4 on Andrew Kraska’s game-winning hit in Tuesday’s Greater Western Ohio Conference high school baseball showdown.

It was the only GWOC American North setback for divisional champion Butler (21-3, 14-1), which had a 34-game divisional win streak snapped. Butler hadn’t lost in GWOC divisional play since a North Division 8-7 loss at Sidney on May 6, 2014. Butler is a No. 1 seed in the upcoming Division I Dayton sectional tournament.

Tipp’s Aaron Hughes (5-0) earned the win and struck out eight. Clay Barney added two hits and three RBI’s. Tipp (18-5, 12-2) finished runner-up to Butler in the American North. The Red Devils are a No. 1 seed in the Kenton Ridge D-II sectional.

Butler defeated visiting Tipp 7-1 on Monday.

Baseball

Anna 13, West Liberty-Salem 4: Elliot earned the win on the mound for Anna. Wuebker led the team all around, going 2-for-3 with a double and three stolen bases. White, Frilling, Coverstone, Stiefel and Kauffman each chipped in two runs.

Indian Lake 13, Graham 1: Three strikeouts was all it took for Dylan Albright to earn the win for Indian Lake. Albright also led the team offensively with three RBIs and three hits on the night.

Kenton Ridge 8, Tecumseh 3: Wichael pitched a complete game to earn the win for Kenton Ridge. Meeks went 3-for-4 with a double, while Schneider and Roach both went 2-for-3.

New Bremen 4, Parkway 0: R. Bertke earned the win for the Cardinals with eight strikeouts on the night. Bertke also earned one of New Bremen’s four runs. C. Parker, C. Alig and B. Blickle chipped in the remaining three.

Catholic Central 8, Mechanicsburg 6: Dom DeWitt earned the win for Catholic Central, while also chipping in two hits offensively. Deece Catanzaro, Cossy Catanzaro and Gunner Weaver tacked on an additional two hits apiece.

West Carrollton 5, Stebbins 2: Nolan Ridgeway led the Pirates offensively with two hits and two RBIs, while Tre Nixon threw a complete game, striking out five, to earn the win for West Carrollton.

Softball

Miamisburg 8, Northmont 6: Kassie Stillner’s pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning provided a dramatic win for the visiting Vikings. Tori Faulkner went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Miamisburg, while Carrina Butler went 2-for-3.

Miamisburg and Northmont will face off in a rematch on Wednesday in Miamisburg.

Ross 2, McAuley 0: Ally Ivey and Faith Ohmer scored the two runs that gave Ross their victory. Kenzie Meyer earned the shutout victory with six strikeouts, giving up only three hits on the night. Maddy Foster also went 2-for-3.

Edgewood 13, Mount Healthy 0: In the first game of a double header, M. Finkbine emerged victorious, earning the win for Edgewood. C. Westerfield went 1-for-1 with two runs scored, while A. Williams went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Edgewood 16, Mount Healthy 0: In the second game of a double header, S. Davis earned the win on the mound for Edgewood. M. Finkbine and H. Jackwon were both 4-for-4 and Finkbine pitched in a home run. R. Todd and E. Robinson were each 1-for-1 with a homerun a piece.

West Liberty-Salem 11, Riverside 10: In a senior night battle, Kelsey Day recorded the win for West Liberty-Salem, also going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and an RBI. Kiana Reames had the game winning hit in the bottom of the 8th and was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Kenton Ridge 17, Tecumseh 0: Carly Turner had a stellar night all around, shutting out Tecumseh by allowing only three hits, topped off by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a homerun. Jordan Rucker led the team offensively, going 2-for-2 with four runs scored, two RBIs and two doubles. Lexee Trainer was close behind, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored, four RBIs and two doubles.

National Trail 28, Twin Valley South 0: Makena Laird pitched the shutout win for National Trail. Payten Laird led the team offensively, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs, while Gracie Jones was close behind with six RBIs, going 5-for-6 on the night. Every girl on the team registered at least one hit.

Boys Tennis

Miami Valley 5, Dayton Christian 0: Colton Morehart, Michael Perevozchikov, Reece Quigley (singles), Joe Keller/Niyanth Reddy and Bijan Arasteh/Amin Ahmed (doubles) all won their sets to sweep the match for Miami Valley.

Lehman Catholic 3, Legacy Christian 2: Sam Ritze (singles), Ryan Goettemoeller/Danny Lins and Michael Wesner/Elias Bezy (doubles) each won their sets to win the match for Lehman Catholic. Ethan Croucher and Morgan Bryant had the singles wins for Legacy Christian.

Butler 3, Tippecanoe 2: Brandon Kreger, Troy Luek and Riley Dunaway swept the singles sets to win the match for Butler. The doubles teams of Noah Blake & Ian Stewart and Christian Blake & Levi Berning won their sets for Tippecanoe.

Greenville 3, Sidney 2: Craig Manges (singles), Austin Grote/Josh Smith and Aaron Lobenstein/Josh Galloway (doubles) won their sets to win the match for Greenville. Prem Dev and Logan Searcy had the singles wins for Sidney.

Edgewood 5, Middletown 0: Hamey, Winter, Fischer (singles), Gilbert/Turner and Maloney/Reiff all won their sets in Edgewood’s sweep of Middletown.

Xenia 5, Fairborn 0: Kenneth Klontz, Dorien Morris, Zane Cukovecki (singles), Chris Brodsky/Michael Graham and Spencer Titus/Aaron Harrison (doubles) each won their sets for Xenia to sweep Fairborn.

Badin 4, Carroll 1: D. Grime, M. Jorgensen and E. Golden all won their singles sets to sweep the singles for Badin. M. Fiehrer and R. Paxton chipped in additional doubles win to secure victory for Badin. The doubles team of N. Gross and J. Carter had the lone win for Carroll.

Valley View 4, Eaton 1: Justin DeVilbiss, Ian Barnett (singles), Ben Holbrook/Ben Lewan and Michael Fischer/Carter Nolte (doubles) all won their sets to lead Valley View to victory. Brad Kramer had the lone singles win for Eaton.

Boys Volleyball

Beavercreek 3, Northmont 0: Beavercreek won their sets 25-14, 25-19 and 25-23. Zach Lohner had 12 kills, while Parker Mikesch had 13 digs and three aces. Noah Buell chipped in 13 assists and Riley Bell added on four blocks.

Edgewood 3, Miamisburg 0: Edgewood won their sets 25-7, 25-13 and 25-17. Jeremiah Beeler led the team with 20 assists, while David Testas tacked on 13 kills and six aces. Blake Perdue had an additional three aces, while Jacob Insprucker chipped in two kills.

Alter 3, Carroll 1: Alter won their sets 25-21, 25-18 and 25-22. Carroll managed to steal the first set 25-23. Kabel had 41 assists, four blocks and two aces on the night, while Rose had 19 kills, 13 digs, four aces and two blocks. Gard had 19 kills for Carroll while Brun had eight. Carroll’s Bethel totaled 37 assists.
