Players have to appear on 75 percent of ballots. There were 394 ballots submitted this year, so they needed at least 296 votes.
Bonds, baseball’s all-time home run leader, received 260 votes (66%). Clemens, who ranks third in baseball history in strikeouts (4,672) received 257 votes (65.2%). Schilling (58.6%) and Sosa (18.5%) also fell short.
All the players could earn election through the Veteran’s Committee in future years.
Clemens is a Dayton native who lived in Vandalia until he was 15. He played in the Murlin Heights Baseball Association in Butler Township when he was a kid. HIs family moved to Houston, Texas, when he was a sophomore in high school.
