Multiple Reds play role in Cubs ending World Series drought

The Cubs ended their 108-year World Series drought with contributions from multiple former Reds.

Some good, some bad.

Closer Aroldis Chapman ended up being the winning pitcher in Game 7, though he came very close to going down as one of the biggest goats of all time.

Pitching for the third time in four days, he was not sharp Wednesday night, giving up three hits including the game-tying two-run homer by Rajai Davis in the eighth inning.

(Someone on the Reds’ social media team apparently decided to have fun shortly after that happened.)

Chapman ultimately ended the series with one save, one win, 11 strikeouts and two walks in 7.2 innings.

Meanwhile, veteran catcher David Ross left his mark on the series by homering to dead center field in Game 7, an amazing final act for his 15-year MLB career (and one that followed some adventures in the field in the previous inning).

Travis Wood, a left-handed reliever, appeared in three games of the World Series for the Cubs, allowing one run in 1.2 innings of work.
