6 must-see moments of the Cincinnati Reds first half

6. Amir Garrett shuts out the Cardinals in St. Louis.

The lefty won a spot in the rotation with a strong spring, and he got off to a great start to the season by striking out four, walking two and allowing just two hits in six innings at Busch Stadium.

The Reds won 2-0.

5. Bronson Arroyo breaks into the win column.

The Bronson experiment didn’t last through the first half, but he thrilled his fans and all of Cincinnati by holding Baltimore to three runs in five innings on April 18.

That earned him his first Reds win in more than 1,000 days.

4. Billy Hamilton’s game-winning hit.

The Reds center fielder is known most for his legs and his glove, but he drove in Arismendy Alcantara with the winning-run in the 10th inning May 1 against the Pirates.

3. Devin Mesoraco’s walk-off home run against Atlanta.

The former first-round draft pick has endured two injury-riddled seasons, but he offered a reminder of how he made the 2014 All-Star Game not long after he returned to the Reds this season.

On June 2, the catcher clubbed a 2-2 pitch over the Great American Ball Park wall in left-center field to lead off the bottom of the 10th inning and send the Reds to a 3-2 win over the Braves.

2. Billy Hamilton’s game-winning sprint.

The Reds looked dead when their speedster was called out at first base for what would have been the third out in the ninth inning at Cleveland on May 24.

Replay overturned the call, though, and Hamilton ended up sprinting around second and third base on Zack Cozart’s single.

Normal humans would have been out at first and likely never even tried to score from first on a single, but it was just another case of Billy being Billy.

The Reds won 4-3.

1. Scooter Gennett’s four-home run game.

This was the easiest choice we’ve made in quite some time.
