Miami RedHawks announce departure of MAC’s top assist man

Miami University announced Tuesday morning Darrian Ringo is no longer a member of the team.

The Brownsburg, Ind., native started 29 games at point guard for the RedHawks last season and was a third-team All-MAC selection.

He averaged 9.6 points and 6.9 rebounds last season, his only one in Oxford after two years in junior college.

He ranked ninth in the nation with a school-record 236 assists, and only three Division I players had more than his 91 steals.

Ringo posted a double-double (10 points, 10 assists) in an overtime win against Wright State in November.

The RedHawks went 16-18 in their first season under head coach Jack Owens, a former Purdue assistant.

Earlier this offseason, Miami also lost center Darius Harper.

The Springfield native left the team after deciding to pursue a football career instead.
