Mechanicsburg senior player of year in Southwest District

Mechanicsburg senior running back Joey Mascadri was named an offensive player of the year and three Springfield players were named first team on the All-Southwest District high school football teams.

A media panel of Southwest District reps, one of nine throughout the state, announced the teams on Thursday. Players are nominated by coaches and voted on by each district’s media panel.

Mascadri was the offensive player of the year in Division VI. He rushed for 1,026 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Indians (8-3).

Springfield players who were named first team D-I were receiver Michael Brown-Stephens, offensive lineman Isaiah Gibson and defensive back Moses Douglass. All are seniors.

Brown-Stephens is verbally committed to the University of Minnesota. Gibson and Douglass, the son of Wildcats head coach Maurice Douglass, are headed to Kentucky.

Area players named first team D-IV were Eli Berner, Blake Jamison, Nate Snyder and Traveont Dennis (Northwestern), Nic Dorsey and Max Niswonger (Urbana), Dylan Leman and Calvin Dibert (Kenton Ridge) and Robie Glass (Shawnee).

Greenon had three players make the D-V first team: Cade Rice, Luke Downing and Nathan Hawks. Nick Clevenger and Clay Payton (Greeneview) also were D-V first team.

Joining Mascadri on the D-VI first team were Indians teammates Logan Hurst, Kix Thiel and Jake Hurst. Other area D-VI first-teamers were Mac Davis, Max Queen and Codey Taylor (Northeastern), and Trevor Woodruff, Thad Lawrence, Isaac Lee, Kyle Wolfe and Major Stratton (West Liberty-Salem).

Cedarville had a trio of first-team D-VII players in Brandon Pollock, Caleb Harding and Hayden Lee. Other area D-VII first-team members were Dylan Rice and Isaiah Bruce of Triad and Catholic Central’s Mykah Eichie.

The Southwest District’s Mr. Football nomination is Cincinnati Winton Woods junior running back Miyan Williams. He had 2,600 yards rushing and 33 touchdowns.

First-team members are nominated for All-Ohio honors. The All-Ohio teams will be chosen by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association and released by the Ohio High School Athletic Association during state championship week.
