Roy Cassidy, a statistician for Dayton Flyers basketball and other UD sports for the last 42 years, died Monday at 70 at Kettering Medical Center.
Cassidy was a Maysville, Ky., native and a 1965 graduate of Xenia High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Morehead State University and earned his master’s degree in elementary education from UD in 1980. He started keeping stats for Dayton athletics department in the mid-1970s.
Cassidy was the head girls golf coach at Carroll High School and was active in the athletic community at St. Brigid School in Xenia as a basketball coach and scorekeeper.
Cassidy was retired from Centerville City Schools. He taught fourth grade for 35 years at Driscoll Elementary, according to his obituary.
He is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Katie Brown and son-in-law Bill Brown and two granddaughters. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at St. Brigid Church, and a funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday.
