“Their drills are college-level drills. They’re doing stuff that I’ve seen when I visited colleges. He’s really got everybody’s heads on straight. Everyone is more focused and more determined and ready to turn the season around.”
Hunter won’t be part of that promising turnaround. Instead, he’ll be trying to crack the University of Findlay’s formidable defensive unit as a freshman linebacker this fall.
He got a head start on that by being named a starting inside linebacker for the North All-Stars. The game drew about 4,000 spectators. The South led 14-6 at halftime.
Hunter and receiver Jalen Fultz represented the Wildcats on the North squad. Other Clark, Champaign and Greene county players on the North were Steven Feasel (DL, Triad), Christian Evans (RB, Tecumseh), Drey Williams (LB, Northeastern), Matt McMahan (OL, Cedarville), Jake McCreary (OL, Triad), Eli King (OL, Triad) and Shane Ware (DB, Urbana).
All the participants are recent graduates and many are furthering their careers at the next level.
Payton Printz of Triad was the North head coach.
Hunter was especially active, making a few tackles and assisting on several more — the kind of play that should enable the 5-foot-10, 215-pounder to impress Findlay coaches.
“It means a whole lot,” he said. “I’m blessed to be given this opportunity to play at the next level. Hopefully, I’ll come in ready to play and make my name early.”
Lebanon quarterback Tanner Clark figured in both of the South’s first-half scores. In the first quarter he squeezed in from the 1-yard line to thwart what had been an inspired goal-line stand by the North. He also fired a 50-yard scoring strike to K.C. Clark of Carlisle.
North QB Graham Oberer had a 44-yard TD pass to Northmont teammate Cameron Taylor in the second quarter.
