High school football playoffs: Who’s in, who’s out


Here’s the area teams we think qualified for the high school football playoffs and what those first-round match-ups will be. These pairings were based on joeeitel.com, the official website used by the Ohio High School Athletic Association to determine qualifying teams.

Playoff status can be affected by forfeits and other unforeseen circumstances that occur after the regular season ends. The OHSAA will announce qualifying teams and first-round match-ups on Sunday.

There are seven divisions and four regions in each. The top eight teams in each region – based on a computer point system that accounts for wins and wins by a defeated opponent – advance to the postseason. Those top four teams earn first-round home games.

Divisions I, II, III and VI will play on Fridays and Divisions IV, V and V-II on Saturdays through the state semifinals. All those games will kick off at 7 p.m. Games switch to neutral sites with the region semifinals (Week 12).
