The Masters: Ernie Els makes a 9 — not 10 — on first hole after 6 putts

We’ve all been there — well a bunch of us anyway.

Four-time major champ Ernie Els opened the Masters on Thursday with a 9 on the par 4 first hole after taking six putts from 3 feet. Watch the painful video below.

The 9 set the Masters record for worst score on the first hole. The previous worst score on No. 1 was an 8.

Els, 46, is a two-time Masters runner-up (2000 and 2004) and a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. He’s won two U.S. Opens and two British Opens.
