Commentary: Pryor not worth the hassle for Browns

If I’m a fan of a certain NFL team, I’m hoping the latest Internet rumor is about as off-target as one of Terrelle Pryor’s wounded-duck shot-put passes.

The Internet buzz: Terrelle Pryor to the Cleveland Browns in the NFL’s supplemental draft. More than a few media outlets have made the suggestion, and on paper it makes sense.

The Browns are loaded with picks for the 2012 draft after fleecing the Atlanta Falcons for five of theirs, including their first-round pick next year. So if teams continue to pass on the athletically gifted yet immature quarterback, what’s it going to hurt if the Browns throw away one of those picks on Pryor in the later rounds?

The distractions simply aren’t worth the payoff.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus is shouting to all who will listen his client is a first-round steal, so you know negotiations will make the lockout talks look like a minor squabble.

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco is singing his praises. Perhaps Ochocinco has played with Carson Palmer so long he’s not sure what an NFL pass looks like. But on closer inspection Ochocinco’s agent is ... Rosenhaus.

Pryor’s selfish. I have yet to hear Pryor apologize to the current players at OSU and the incoming freshmen who likely have to miss a shot at the Big Ten title game and bowl games so he could have some new ink.

At least Browns fans have some common sense. In one newspaper’s poll, 60 percent said the Browns roster has no room for Pryor. Still, 21 percent said take him in the third round or later, nine percent said make him a receiver, 5 percent said grab him in the first round and 4 percent said he’s second-round material.

When it comes to Pryor, the Browns and NFL should punt.
