Browns won’t be franchising running back Hillis

CLEVELAND — As expected, the Cleveland Browns will not place the franchise tag on running back Peyton Hillis, ESPN reported Thursday, citing a source familiar with the situation.

Whether Hillis returns to the Browns is still up in the air amid reports that he contemplated retirement at the end of last season and briefly pondered a career in the CIA.

“If we can work something out with Peyton (Hillis), we will,” Browns general manager Tom Heckert said. “Things will still come down to the money, but we’ll just have to wait and see.”
