Bengals sign 4th-round pick Muckelroy; Shipley next?

The Bengals today, July 27, announced the signing linebacker Roderick Muckelroy from the University of Texas, one of two Cincinnati fourth-round selections in the 2010 draft. Muckelroy was the 131st overall selection.

Muckelroy was a two-time first-team All-Big 12 selection for Texas. He led the team in tackles each of the last two seasons, as the Longhorns compiled a 25-2 record. Last season, he contributed to a national best rushing yield of 72.4 yards per game.

Muckelroy is the sixth of Cincinnati’s nine 2010 draft selections to sign. Also signed are cornerback Brandon Ghee of Wake Forest (third round), defensive tackle Geno Atkins of Georgia (fourth round), guard Otis Hudson of Eastern Illinois (fifth round), wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe of Kansas (sixth round) and center Reggie Stephens of Iowa State (seventh round).

It looks like Jordan Shipley may be the next Bengals pick to sign, as Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reported on his blog that the Bengals have agreed to a deal with the receiver from Texas, a third-round pick.

T.O. update

Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reported Tuesday morning that the New York Jets had made a call to enquire about free-agent recevier Terrell Owens, but the interest is apparently lukewarm for the 36-year-old and a signing appears to be a long shot.

Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reported Tuesday afternoon that the Bengals and Owens had talks Tuesday, but no signing as of yet. The team wants to try to have an Owens deal done, if it’s going to happen, by Wednesday, the day the team is to report to training camp at Georgetown College.
