George Mason stuns Dayton with 7-0 run in final minutes

Flyers fall to 4-2 in the A-10, while the Patriots improve to 6-1

George Mason outscored the Dayton Flyers 7-0 in the last 2:06 to stun the crowd at UD Arena and win 67-63 on Wednesday.

Dayton led 63-60 after a 3-pointer by Jordan Davis with 2:58 to play. Those were Dayton’s last points. The Flyers had a chance to extend the lead to five points on the next possession, but Davis missed a fast-break layup.

A jumper by Jared Reuter cut Dayton’s lead to 63-62, and then Obi Toppin committed a costly turnover, which led to the go-ahead basket, a putback dunk by Ian Boyd, on the fast break with 1:32 to go.

Dayton had three turnovers, four missed shots and a missed free throw in the final 2:58.

Jalen Crutcher missed what would have been a go-ahead 3-pointer with 10 seconds left.

Dayton falls to 12-7 and 4-2. George Mason is 12-8 and 6-1. Josh Cunningham led the Flyers with 15 points. Toppin had 11.

HALFTIME RECAP

Cunningham scored 11 points to lead the Flyers to a 33-31 halftime lead.

Cunningham, who made 4 of 6 shots from the field, including 1 of 2 3-pointers, had nine points in the first six minutes.

Each team led by as many as six points. Dayton had the early advantage. Then the Patriots took control with a 12-0 run. The Flyers outscored the Patriots 13-5 in the last 7:41.

Ryan Mikesell scored seven points for Dayton. Dwayne Cohill hit two 3-pointers in a short span to help Dayton rally from a 26-20 deficit. He scored six points.

Dayton made 9 of 15 2-point field goals but 4 of 15 3-point shots.

Javon Greene led George Mason with seven points. Justin Kier and Jarred Reuter each scored six. Otis Livingston II had five points.
