Dayton Flyers move closer to top 25 in AP women’s basketball poll

Dayton riding fourth-longest winning streak in school history

Dayton won its 20th game Sunday, beating George Washington on the road.

The Dayton Flyers inched closer to the top 25 in the Associated Press women’s basketball poll Monday, receiving 11 points in voting. That’s four more than last week.

Dayton (20-4, 13-0) has the fourth-highest points total of teams left out of the top 25. The Flyers rank 39th in the RPI.

The Flyers extended their winning streak to 14 games in a row Sunday with a 57-53 victory at George Washington in Washington, D.C. They secured their 10th 20-win season in the last 11 years. This is also the fourth-longest winning streak in school history.

Dayton won 18 games in a row in a streak that began in February 1980 and ended in November of the following season. Dayton has twice won 16 games in a row, most recently in the 2007-08 season, and it has two 15-game winning streaks, one coming in the 2012-13 season.

Dayton returns to action at 2 p.m. Sunday against Fordham (19-6, 10-2) at UD Arena.
