The camera was focused on Wright State coach Scott Nagy. Dakich noticed Archdeacon, sitting on press row, in the background.

“What a great dude,” Dakich said. “One of the great characters in journalism.”

Archdeacon, who will go from covering the Horizon League tournament in Indianapolis to the Atlantic 10 tournament in Brooklyn, N.Y., later this week, was inducted into the United States Basketball Writers Hall of Fame in 2017. A native of Ottoville, Ohio, and a University of Dayton graduate, Archdeacon joined the Dayton Daily News in 1989.

Archdeacon’s biography on DaytonDailyNews.com describes him as “an old-school storyteller who writes about sports, the city, southwest Ohio and anything else that catches his fancy or yours.”
