Carroll’s Austria commits to UD basketball

Kelley Austria, a 5-foot-10 junior guard from Carroll High School, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Dayton women’s basketball program, according to her coach.

Austria is considered one of the top shooting-guard prospects in Ohio. She’s averaging 13.5 points, 4.6 steals and 3.1 assists per game. She’s the first commitment for UD in the 2012 class and also had scholarship offers from Miami, Bowling Green and Ball State.

“Her value is really at the defensive end,” Carroll coach Rob Berry said. “She’s the top defender in the area. She can guard the one through five positions and shut down anyone in the area.”
