Area Headlines: Ford named to Wittenberg Hall of Honor

Longtime Springfield North High School head boys basketball coach Eddie Ford was one of seven inductees named to the Wittenberg University Athletic Hall of Honor on Friday.

Ford scored 1,025 points and led Wittenberg to three NCAA Division III tournament appearances while playing basketball from 1971-75.

Other inductees are football players Ken Bonner (‘89), Eric Horstman (‘89) and Gary Sitler (‘78), men’s golfer Lamar Kilgore (‘55), women soccer player Karen Larson (‘96) and basketball player Tom Weller (‘88).

SWIMMING

Geer finishes 12th in 100 free semifinals

SPY swimmer Margo Geer finished 12th in the 100 meter freestyle semifinals at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Omaha, Neb.

Geer, a University of Arizona sophomore, swam a mark of 54.85 in her first semifinal event. Geer placed fourth in the preliminaries with a time of 54.62.

Catholic Central grad J.K. Koehler placed 98th in the 200m backstroke (2:08.17).
