Urbana football wins opener over Tusculum, 53-33

Urbana University quarterback D.J. Mendenhall scored five touchdowns and had 354 yards of total offense as the host Blue Knights defeated Tusculum College, 53-33 in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.

Mendenhall was 22-for-30 passing for 305 yards and three touchdowns. Mendenhall also rushed for 54 yards and two first-half touchdowns as Urbana built a 34-6 halftime lead.

Mechanicsburg High grad Joe Webb had nine receptions for 151 yards and a score. University of Buffalo transfer running back Jeffvon Gill rushed for 126 yards on 19 carries and two scores.

Preseason All-American Perry Jackson led the defense with 7 tackles, 1 sack, a forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries and a blocked PAT while Jalen Crobsy had 11 tackles and Kyle Ferguson added 10 tackles, 1 sack.

Urbana hosts Seton Hill at noon, Saturday, Sept. 8.
