Junior post Scott Masin led the Tigers on Saturday with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Sam Collins, a newcomer to the rotation, had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Those two combined to shoot 14-of-30 from the field.
Zack Leahy had 11 points. Steven Newell scored 9, and John Albertson had 8 points on 4-of-5 shooting in just 9 minutes.
Wittenberg seized control in the final 4 minutes of the first half with a 10-4 run, turning a 24-21 deficit into a 31-28 lead at halftime. The Spartans tied it 31-31 in the first minute of the second half, but that was the last tie. Four straight points by Collins put Wittenberg up for good.
It was still a five-point game at the 8:40 mark. At that point, a 3-pointer by Steven Newell began an 8-0 run that put the game away.
Wittenberg outrebounded Case 42-28 and shot 44 percent from the field while Case shot 38. The Tigers made 10-of-13 free throws, which helped offset Case’s 10-of-24 performance from 3-point range.
The Tigers play at Capital at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Their homer opener is at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 28 against Marietta.
