Burns, of Harvest, Ala., hit .500 (11-for-2) with three doubles, a home run and six RBIs in six games last week. Burns helped lead the City Kings to a 5-1 week that put them within a game of the East Division lead into the fifth week of the season. He’s hitting .333 with six doubles, a home run and 11 RBIs for the season.
Curlis, of Findlay, tossed eight shutout innings over two appearances last week. Curlis allowed two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 13. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound left-hander started and earned the win in a 10-2 win over Springfield (Ill.) on June 22. Curlis struck out 12 of the 23 batters he faced in that game in seven innings. He is 1-1 with a 3.69 ERA in six appearances (four starts).
The Kings (14-9) trail the Chillicothe Paints (15-8) by one game in the East Division of the wood-bat summer league. Champion City hosts the Kokomo (Ind.) Jackrabbits at 6:35 p.m.
