City Kings sweep Prospect League weekly honors

The Champion City Kings swept the Prospect League Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.

Tanner Burns (University of Alabama-Huntsville) is the player of the week and Connor Curtis (Ohio State) is the pitcher of the week.

Burns, of Harvest, Ala., hit .500 (11-for-2) with three doubles, a home run and six RBIs in six games last week. Burns helped lead the City Kings to a 5-1 week that put them within a game of the East Division lead into the fifth week of the season. He’s hitting .333 with six doubles, a home run and 11 RBIs for the season.

Curlis, of Findlay, tossed eight shutout innings over two appearances last week. Curlis allowed two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 13. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound left-hander started and earned the win in a 10-2 win over Springfield (Ill.) on June 22. Curlis struck out 12 of the 23 batters he faced in that game in seven innings. He is 1-1 with a 3.69 ERA in six appearances (four starts).

The Kings (14-9) trail the Chillicothe Paints (15-8) by one game in the East Division of the wood-bat summer league. Champion City hosts the Kokomo (Ind.) Jackrabbits at 6:35 p.m.
