The first home match for FC Cincinnati in Major League Soccer couldn’t have gone much better.
The Orange and Blue blanked the Portland Timbers 3-0 before a sold-out crowd at Nippert Stadium on the campus of the University of Cincinnati.
Kendall Waston scored in the 15th minute to make it 1-0 and Alan Cruz and Mathieu Deplagne added second-half goals.
“It’s a special for the city of the Cincinnati,” FC Cincinnati coach Alan Koch told ESPN after the game. “It’s a huge day for our club and I’m glad our players embraced the opportunity.”
FC Cincinnati (1-1-1) returns to action next Sunday at New England Revolution.
