Bengals designate Peerman for return from IR

The Cincinnati Bengals have designated Pro Bowl special teams player and running back Cedric Peerman for return from Injured Reserve, a move that officially ends the season of cornerback William Jackson, the team’s first-round draft pick.

Jackson and Peerman were the only two players eligible to return from IR, and teams are limited to one such move.

Peerman is cleared to practice today and is expected to be added to the 53-man roster prior to Sunday’s game in Baltimore. The Bengals currently have an open spot on the roster after placing running back Giovani Bernard, who tore his ACL against Buffalo on Sunday, on season-ending IR Tuesday.

The Bernard injury likely was the key to deciding between Peerman and Jackson for the player to return. Rex Burkhead had been filling Peerman’s role on special teams, but he is expected to take over Bernard’s role on offense.
