Bengals bring back Dawson

Linebacker P.J. Dawson was back on the practice field at Paul Brown Stadium today after the Cincinnati Bengals signed him to the practice squad following an eventful weekend.

Dawson, last year’s third-round pick, initially made the 53-man roster when the final cuts were announced Saturday, but when the Bengals claimed quarterback Jeff Driskel off waivers Sunday, they released Dawson as the corresponding move.

Dawson cleared waivers and became a free agent on Monday. According to published reports he had a tryout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the Bengals signed him to the practice squad today.

The TCU product appeared in 11 games as a rookie, playing mostly on special teams, where he had seven tackles.
