Mavericks excited about potential of former Dayton forward Antetokounmpo

Former Dayton forward scores 10 points in final Summer League game

Former Dayton Flyers forward Kostas Antetokounmpo signed a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks on Friday after the team’s final game in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Nev.

Antetokounmpo, the last pick in the NBA Draft in June and the first Dayton player drafted since 1990, had 10 points in a 96-92 victory over the Washington Wizards. He made 3 of 4 field goals and 4 of 5 free throws in 11 minutes. Three of his brothers, including Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, watched from the stands.

"He's a great rim runner and a great athlete," Dallas president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson told the Dallas Morning News. "We're really excited about his potential."

The two-way contracts came to the NBA last season. Charles Cooke signed one a year ago with the New Orleans Pelicans. Teams can keep two two-way players on the roster. The contracts allow them to split time between the NBA and the G-League. Players will spend most of their time in the G-League and can spend up to 45 days in the NBA.
