It was another strong showing in area girls high school basketball this past season. As usual, there were many championship teams, breakout performances and record-setting players.

Here’s who we think are most deserving for the 2019 All-Area girls basketball teams. Selections were based on coaches’ nominations and chosen by Cox Media Group Ohio.

Division I: Centerville (25-3) quickly separated from the rest of the Greater Western Ohio Conference teams and was the most successful in the postseason, falling to eventual D-I state champ Mount Notre Dame in a regional final. That's why the Elks are represented on the first team by sophomore guard Amy Velasco and freshman center Cotie McMahon. Centerville's Adam Priefer is coach of the year.

Player of the year honors went to Destiny Bohanon (15.1 points per game), a Wayne senior who signed with the University of Dayton.

Division II: Carroll (27-3) opened with 15 straight wins and rode that momentum into the state championship, falling to Toledo Rogers . That was the 10th time in the last 11 seasons a Greater Catholic League Co-Ed North team advanced to the final four among Alter (seven times), Carroll (twice) and Chaminade Julienne (once).

Carroll senior Elisabeth Bush and junior Julia Keller were both first team and Cecilia Grosselin of the Patriots the coach of the year. Player of the year honors went to Kenton Ridge senior Mikala Morris (27.0 points and 21.0 rebounds). She scored 40 or more points four times, surpassed 2,000 career points and became Ohio's all-time leading rebounder (1,700-plus).

Division III: Led by senior player of the year Rachel Murray (19.8) and first-team senior Marcella Sizer, Waynesville (27-1) was undefeated in the regular season and lost only to Columbus Africentric in a state final. Coach of the year Tim Gabbard has guided Waynesville the past 39 seasons.

Division IV: Coach of the year Mike Wiss of Minster has the championship touch. Minster (27-1) won its second straight state title after Wiss succeeded Nann Stechschulte as coach in the 2017-18 season. Wiss also had led the Minster baseball team to two state titles.

Program record-setter Samantha Whiteman (24.8), a senior at Covington, is the player of the year.
