Michelle's Macarons and Revival Haus is celebrating its first birthday with a celebration Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. featuring complimentary cookies from The Flying Key and coffee from Purebred Coffee.

There will also be some sweet deals on the famous macarons.

ABOUT MICHELLE’S MACARONS

She started her then home-based business five years ago when she started making her trademark French macarons for her friends and family. This quickly grew to increasing production, manning booths at farmers markets, and eventually expanded to sales at different coffee shops and bakeries in Ohio.

In 2018, she opened her own shop in downtown Troy at 9 E. Canal St. to sell her crispy cookies that melt in your mouth.

The retail space is shared with Revival Haus, which  specializes in carefully curated vintage goods and expertly restored mid-century furniture pieces.

Macarons are available to purchase as singles or boxes and bigger orders will still be available.

Adams said she is excited to be able to interact with customers at a place they can visit as often as they like. Being able to ship nationwide is also something she's really looking forward to.

"This has been the goal since I starting making macarons. The right place opened up so I jumped on the opportunity," said Adams. "I want to open multiple macaron shops. I think there's a need for really good gluten free desserts,"

Adams has gotten really creative with some of her past offerings. Nerds Blizzard unicorn macarons were the craziest thing she said she has come up with so far.

"I like them because they're easy to eat, a nice size, and I feel like they're not too unhealthy because they're made with almond flour, which is just ground up almonds ... you can eat a couple and not feel bad," said Adams. "As of now, it's just macarons and I'll keep making them all gluten free. There will be a lot of fun new flavors that I've been wanting to make available — turtle cheesecake, peanut butter cookie dough, earl grey, caramel pistachio."

Macarons vs. macaroons

From Michelle Adams, owner of Michelle's Macarons, blog: "Macarons are light, airy meringue based cookies sandwiched around a delicious filling. Macaroons are chewy coconut lumps."

Both are derived from the Italian word amasser, which means to crush. Both are sweet treats, but as Adams points out, there's not much difference after that.

Adams has a step-by-step online video course at www.michellesmacarons.com that teaches people how to make macarons that is available for purchase for those interested in learning more.
