Walter P.

Age 93, of Riverside, died June 3, 2021, at Hospice of Dayton. Walter was born on September 7, 1927, in Dayton to the late Leo and Mary Strubczewski. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 at the age of 17 and served for four years.

Discharged as Quartermaster 3rd class, Walter returned to Dayton to enroll at the University of Dayton and the College of the Dayton Art Institute on the G.I. Bill. In 1954 he graduated with a BFA from both schools. For 27 years Walter was employed as Art Director at KH&C Advertising agency and then at Hobart Corp. of Troy. During all the years of employment he maintained an art

studio working in all mediums and styles as a fine artist. His work has been exhibited in many galleries, at the Ohio State Fair and the Dayton Art Institute receiving numerous awards including a Cleo in 1977. Walter has been a member of the Art Center of Dayton, the Dayton Advertising Club, the

Dayton Society of Artists, and the Dayton Polish Club. He still found time to coach springboard diving at both Philipps Aquatic Club and Dayton Country Club. After retiring from his professional life, Walter was employed at Five Seasons Family Sports Center where he and Ann enjoyed swimming, tennis, working out, and friendships. A long-time member of Dayton Ski and Board Club, Walter participated on their racing team for many years and helped his team to "bring home the gold." He accumulated over 85 gold medals over time. A lifetime member of St. Adalbert Church until its recent closing, Walter joined St. Mary Catholic Church in Dayton. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his only

sibling, Joseph, who was killed in Korea in 1951; his only child, Toni Ann in 2007; a cousin Regina (and Bill) Goode; and

in-laws Mary Buonocore, Kay Wolff and Bill Buonocore. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Ann Leigh; Ann's daughter Rebecca Leigh Humphery, and her five children including

Joseph Leigh to whom Walter was both a father and grandfather. Also surviving is Ann's son Michael (Julie) Leigh and daughter Brittany Leigh; in-laws Bob Wolff and Katie Wolff; numerous Goode family cousins; and he was beloved Uncle Walt to all of Ann's nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 17th at St. Mary Church in Dayton. Burial will follow in the Dayton VA National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am prior to Mass at the Church. The family would like to thank all of the employees at Hospice of Dayton for the very professional care of Walter. Donations in Walter's memory may be made to Hospice of Dayton or Dayton VA Center.
