GREATHOUSE, III, Charles Richard "Dick"
67, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Willow Knoll Senior Living. Dick "Dickie" overcame obstacles throughout his amazing life, despite the challenge of Cerebral Palsy, onset at birth. He was a member of the first class of
Doty House, now Abilities First Foundation and went on to graduate from Middletown Freshman High and Madison High School by his own merit. As a student, he founded The
Middletown Eagle newspaper which he wrote, typed, edited and mimeographed at home. He was well-known for his
uncanny memory skills and could recite arcane data including the birth and death dates of President John F. Kennedy, in his final week of earthly life. Dick was an avid sports fan, awarded the Middletown Freshman High Booster of the Year award and followed high school, college and professional teams throughout his life
He even fished at Coldwater Lake, Michigan, during summer family vacations. He also collected signed photographs of Ohio Supreme Court judges, many bearing inscriptions of admiration and encouragement. Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Charles Richard
Greathouse, Jr. and is survived by his brothers, Douglas
(Sandy) and Daniel (Mary) as well as 11 nieces and nephews and 9 great-nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dick's "team," The countless medical professionals, excellent caregivers, educators, and friends who added depth, joy and dignity to his rich existence. Special appreciation goes to middle-brother Douglas Greathouse for Dick's administration as well as the many field trips, meals, visits and conversations. The family hopes that if friends ever hear the phrases, "Listen Mac," or "Let's get this show on the road," they will cast a kind thought toward Dick's memory. Funeral Service will be this Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown, with Reverend Michael Isaacs officiating.
