Fike, Roy Albert "Al"
Al Fike, 86, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away November 24, 2024, with his wife Laura and dog Sugar at his side. Al was born in 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri, son of Roy Fike, Sr., and Alma Hiller Fike. He attended grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse, Lee's Summit High School, and earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla. He worked as a professional engineer in Missouri, Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio and was well respected as a problem solver. He raised five children: Dawna, Rindy, Fred and Len Fike, and stepson Brian Eblin. As a Boy Scout leader, he encouraged Fred to become an Eagle Scout. Al earned a pilot's license and flew a single engine plane for several years. He enjoyed golf, travel, and Dayton's Philharmonic, Opera, Ballet and Human Race Theatre. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepparents Arthur Grube (Alma) and Mary Fike (Roy), sister Claire Debrot, son Len Fike and daughter Dawna Mazurak-Fike, and first wife, Donna Fike. Al is survived by his wife of 35 years, Laura, sons Fred Fike (Patricia) and Brian Eblin (Jeanne), daughter Rindy Turner (Alex), 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held January 11, 2025, 2 p.m. at Queen of Apostles chapel, Mount St. John, 4435 E. Patterson Rd., Beavercreek, followed by a reception. Memorial donations may be directed to the Tecumseh Council, Boy Scouts of America, Hospice of Dayton or the arts organization of your choice.
