DILL, Patti Lou
and Colin Edward
Patti Lou Dill, age 91, and Colin Edward Dill, age 93, of New Carlisle, passed away just three days apart. Married for 70 years, Patti died Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Wood Glen Nursing Center in Dayton and Colin passed on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville. While declining health kept them apart in recent years, their hearts inevitably remained intertwined. Patti and Colin were married on August 26, 1950, in Columbus. Shortly thereafter, Colin's service in the Army took them to Fort Knox, Kentucky, where they started a family. Once discharged, they moved to Dayton where their family eventually grew to six. In 1963, they made their way to New Carlisle where the couple opened Dill Refrigeration and Appliance. A trained technician, Colin provided in-home appliance repair and Patti ran the office and sold new appliances in the showroom. Long after the store was closed, local residents still counted on Colin's repair skills to ensure their ovens worked on Thanksgiving Day and their air conditioners cooled during the hot days of summer. Patti was known for her booming Avon business, which earned her passage to the President's Club many times during her 20 years with the company. They were active members of the First United Methodist Church in New Carlisle. Colin was in the Sertoma Club and Patti was a member of the church circle group. She also served as the treasurer for the Tecumseh High School Band Boosters, among other volunteer positions with the schools. Patti was born on October 5, 1929, to Gilma (Clapper) Wilkins and Arthur Wilkins of New Rome. Colin was born on July 29, 1927, to Ivah (Haines) Dill and K. Hays Dill of Ashville. They are preceded in death by their parents, Patti's sister Lavonne (Jack) Headlee, and Colin's siblings, Howard Dill, David (Metta) Dill, Frank (Jane) Dill and Donna (Boyd) Fosnaugh. Patti and Colin are survived by a son, Dennis Dill of Cincinnati; three daughters, Debbie (Rodney) Miller of Brookville, Janice (Daryl) Dulaney of Naples, Florida, and Cindy (Jim) Young of Newark; six grandchildren, Erin (Nate) Buelt, Brian (Stephanie) Dulaney, Alex Steen, Daniel Miller, Chelsea Steen and Ashley Miller; and three great-grandchildren, Anna, Lillian and Grace Buelt. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the New Carlisle Cemetery with Jamie Leighty officiating. A formal procession will gather at Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar and Fraley Funeral Home located at 507 W. Jefferson St. in New Carlisle at 10:15 a.m. and depart for the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Friends and loved ones are welcome to join. Contributions are suggested for the First United Methodist Church in New Carlisle. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.trostelchapman.com.
