CARTER, William W. "Bill"

WILLIAM "BILL" W. CARTER, 80, of Springfield passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at home. He was born on

August 10, 1940, in Mansfield, Ohio, the son of the late

Walter and Florence Carter. Bill was very active with 4-H in Clark and Champaign County. He worked with the youth at The Ohio State University as an Olympic Coach. Bill was a member of Explorer Post 6 and

Masonic Anthony Lodge No. 455. As a young man, he worked for several years for International Harvester, in Springfield. Starting on the production line, he worked his way into

management, filling positions of greater authority and

responsibility. General Dynamics Land Systems recruited him in the early 80's to help manage the production of the U.S.

Army's brand new M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank. He retired from General Dynamics in 1993 and returned to International Harvester, now called Navistar, where he worked until he

retired in 2000. Survivors include his beloved wife, Harriet L. (Everhart) Carter; one daughter and two grandsons. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
