Police ID man killed in crash with garbage truck in Northeast Austin

The man who died in a crash with a municipal garbage truck Wednesday in Northeast Austin has been identified as Abraham Aguilar-Diaz, 25.

A preliminary police investigation found that Aguilar-Diaz was driving south on Harris Branch Parkway his 1997 Green Honda Civic when he ran the red light at the U.S. 290 East service road.

Aguilar-Diaz was pinned into his Honda Civic after the crash. Emergency responders pulled him out, but he was pronounced dead at University Medical Center Brackenridge.

The driver of the garbage truck refused treatment by Austin-Travis County EMS. Police said investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Police said the incident was Austin’s 33rd fatal traffic crash and resulted in the 33rd fatality on Austin’s roads in 2016.
