This fast-food spot served Springfield for more than 30 years. Today, it’s gone.

The longtime Wendy’s location on South Limestone Street in Springfield was demolished today, about four months after its closing was announced.

The Stock Group, based in Sandusky, Ohio, operates five Wendy’s fast food locations in Springfield but it announced it would close its location at 2040 S. Limestone St. in January, according to Sharon Wilkoski, company director. Despite the closing, four other Wendy’s restaurants remain in Springfield, she said, and the Stock Group has made investments in its other locations in recent years.

Wilkoski said the company has made a lot of investments in the community regarding their other Wendy’s locations.

The crew from Tony Smith Wrecking was nearly done with the work by about noon today, and our photographer caught them taking down the large menu sign and drive-thru.
