Sunflower photos, other things to do in Clark, Champaign counties

Need suggestions on things to do this weekend? Here are five things to do in Clark and Champaign counties - while taking proper COVID-19 precautions like wearing masks and social distancing:

1. Clark County Sunflower Field

The Clark County Sunflower Field, located near the bike path along West Euclid Avenue and Grand Avenue in Springfield, is still blooming.

With nearly four to five acres of sunflowers, individuals can visit the field, take photos and make memories with their loved ones.

2. Springfield Farmer’s Market

The Springfield Farmer’s Market, located at 117 South Fountain Ave. in Springfield, is open 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. There will be dozens of local vendors with fresh, local vegetables, meats, dairy products and baked goods.

3. Wake the Lake

Wake the Lake 4, a F1 powerboat race, will begin racing on Saturday and continue on Sunday with gates opening at 8 a.m. Admission is $15 for adults today and Sunday. Children 12 and under are free.

The boat races will take place at Champions Park Lake at the Clark County Fairgrounds, located at 401 S. Charleston Pike in Springfield.

4. Flourish’s Bloom Bar

Flourish, a Springfield florist, is hosting a bloom bar from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Snyder Park Clubhouse, located at 1900 Park St. in Springfield.

Customers will be able to choose their own stems to build their own bouquets at home. Stems will include sunflowers, eucalyptus, zinnias, gomphrena and other flowers.

5. Champaign County Fair

The Champaign County Fair will have several 4-H and FFA exhibits and an abundance of food options this weekend. The fair, located at 384 Park Ave. in Urbana, is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through next Friday. Admission is $5 except on the last day, when it will be free.

This weekend’s events include a swine showmanship, horse shows and several cattle shows.
