Kasich said he was lobbied by both his daughter Reese, 10, and Elin Hansen, also 10, daughter of Kasich’s chief of staff Beth Hansen.
“The state pays for all of the calamity days,” said Strickland, defeated for re-election by Kasich. “I believe that when the state pays for a day of instruction for a student, the student should get a day of instruction.”
Democrat Strickland declined to mix it up with Kasich over the issue.
“I don’t want to get into whether it was a good or bad idea,” he said.
In backing the return to five days, Kasich said “we live in a climate where we have bad weather.”
