State: Casinos must comply with directive on large gatherings

Two area racinos are closed and Ohio’s four casinos must comply with the state’s directive on large gatherings.

Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway in Dayton is closed and Miami Valley Gaming near Monroe closed at 10 p.m. Friday, both citing coronavirus concerns.

Jerry Abner, senior director of marketing for MVG, issued the following statement:

“Following guidance from the director of health for the state of Ohio and Gov. (Mike) DeWine in regards to the coronavirus/COVID-19, Miami Valley Gaming is closed until further notice. We apologize for any convenience Please continue to follow MVG’s website and social media for updates as they become available,”

The Ohio Casino Control Commission on Friday ordered that the four casinos – JACK Cincinnati Casino, JACK Cleveland Casino, Hollywood Casino Columbus and Hollywood Casino Toledo – cannot have more than 100 people at a time to obey DeWine’s ban on large gatherings to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Each casino must be in compliance by midnight, and must submit plans on how they will maintain compliance to the commission, according to a release.

The commission stated it will continue to monitor the COVID‐19 situation, and may take additional actions if needed.
