Northern Ohio officer shot, suspect killed in shootout

A northern Ohio police officer is recovering after being shot in a fatal shootout according to deputies and multiple media reports.

Our news partner WBNS-TV in Columbus reports the Kenton Police officer was responding to a domestic-related call when he was shot and wounded around 5 p.m. Saturday.

That officer, who has been identified as Officer Kyler Newfer, is reportedly recovering from his injuries in a Columbus hospital after being flown there by a medical helicopter.

The suspect left the scene of the shooting and a police pursuit ensued before the he was shot and killed by police.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect who was killed a 47-year-old Stephen Davis.

Other information about the incident was not available.

Kenton is the county seat of Hardin County and is located about 30 minutes north of Bellefontaine.
